Gunsmith concept: The Dullahan

Concepts for the player character of gunsmith, The Dullahan. We took time to explore how to make a wizard character fit in a ww1 inspired setting. In the end, we went with a design more evocative of a ww1 soldier, with hints of design language that speak to a more traditional wizard character (long coat, staff-like weapon, magic cloth). We want to let the player connect the dots from there, rather than have Gandalf running around in the trenches (which might have been cool as well).

These concepts also helped us zone in on machinery language for the world. Heavily inspired by early 20th century trains and industrial revolution machinery. Dark burnt metal, no sleek bevels, support brackets, function over form. Blocks of heavy machinery stacked on top of eachother. This can be seen in the Dullahan's magic engine, equipped on his right arm.

Trying to feel out how much we want this character to read as a soldier, and how much it should read as a medieval wizard.

We started to hone in on a design language we liked. Leaning toward less medieval and more ww1 era soldier with heavy industrial revolution machinery equipped.

This round of rough concepts delivered an overall design we liked. We took design 2, and used it to develop a clean turnaround for modeling.
